Particle Size Analyser (Nicomp, USA)

This instrument operates on the basis of dynamic light scattering (DLS; also quasi-elastic light scattering, QELS, or photon correlation spectroscopy, PCS). It serves for characterisation of size distribution of particles suspended in a solvent, such as polymers (latex, PVC, etc), emulsions, micelles, biological macromolecules, pigments, dyes. It is useful for measurement of dispersion stability. Weight average molecular weight of polymers is possible to be assessed as well. The software takes a mathematical approach to analyze autocorrelation function for a measured system via application either Gaussian or NICOMP distribution analysis. The latter one allows for differentiation of various distributions of particles in a system.
